Mohammed Sathak Trust sponsor of various educational institutions at Kilakarai and Chennai is a Public Charitable and educational organization established in 1973 by the Philanthropic persons of Kilakarai. Its aim is the promotion of the technical education and training of personnel to meet the technical needs of our country. It endeavors to spread technical education at all levels particularly among the backward communities of the backward area of Ramanathapuram District. Mohammed Sathak Engineering College is the first Self Financing Engineering College to win Approval under the generous technical education policy of Government of Tamil Nadu (vide G.O. Ms. No. 1088, Education dated 21.08.1984). After obtaining affiliation from Madurai Kamaraj University, The College has started functioning in October 1984. AICTE has approved all the courses being conducted by this institutions. With a view to ensure rapid development, the college is governed by an Autonomous Governing Council. The Governing Council is invested with full powers for administration and Management of the affairs and the finances of the College, with Honorable Dr. S.M.HAMID ABDUL QUADER as Chairman.

Mohammed Sathak Engineering College, Kilakarai sponsored by the Mohammed Sathak Trust of Chennai was started in the academic Year 1984-1985 under the auspices of generous technical education Policy of Government of Tamilnadu which had permitted this Institution to function under the self financing engineering college scheme (vide G.O. MS. 1088. Education dated 21.08.1984). The Madurai Kamaraj University had granted affiliation for conducting the under graduate courses in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Marine Engineering and 5year B.Arch. Degree programme. Aeronautical Engineering is introduced from 1998-99. The Mohammed Sathak Trust is a public, Charitable and educational organization established in 1973 by the philanthropic persons of Kilakarai with the following objectives. Its aim is the promotion of the technical education and training of the personnel to meet the technical needs of our country. It endeavors to spread technical education at all levels particularly among the backward area of Ramanathapuram district. It helps the backward people of this remote area to improve their standard of living by their own labour, work and industry. As a first step to achieve this noble objective, a Polytechnic named as Mohammed Sathak Polytechnic was started in August 1980 at Kilakarai. This Polytechnic affiliated to the State Board of Technical Education and Training of the Government of Tamil Nadu offers instruction in (i) Mechanical Engineering (ii) Electronics and Communication Engineering (iii) Civil Engineering (iv) Electrical and Electronics Engineering (v)Chemical Engineering (vi)Marine Engineering (vii) Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration and (viii) Computer Technology. The proposals to start an Engineering College submitted by the Trust to the Government of Tamil Nadu had been accepted by the Government and this college is the first self financing Engineering College to win approval as early as 21.08.1984. Soon the University affiliation was obtained and the College had started functioning in early October 1984, AICTE had approved all the Courses being conducted by this institution.
A masterplan for the College has been prepared at a total outlay of Rs.10crores and the construction work is nearing completion in the 150 acres of land belonging to the Trust, adjoining to the Polytechnic campus. The classes are going on in the new building of the Engineering College. The Engineering College campus is located on the either side of the Kilakarai-Erwadi Trunk Road at a Distance of about 3 Kilometers from Kilakarai Town. Kilakarai Town is situated 16 Kilometers off Ramanathapuram railway station in the East Coast road.

Since the establishment in October 1984,this institution offers undergraduate B.E. Degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical and Electronics and Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Marine Engineering and B.Arch Degree programme. Aeronautical Engineering is introduced from 1998-99.
